Cafe Brainstorming. Where do you get out of your everyday space to think?

I've been reading and listening to a lot on marketing and business strategy lately.  For those of you who don't know, I do consulting work in addition to being an author and I have a sales role with a large multinational company.

I'm not entirely pleased with how I manage my consulting work and I'm in the middle of re-organizing.  Many ideas are currently swirling in my head about how I present and sell my services.

My recent reading of Kim Flynn's book [CLICK TO GO TO THE REVIEW] has got me thinking about my 'stuff' and my 'one big thing' and creating 'up-sell pathways' beyond the 'big thing.'

Today I spent time at a local Second Cup location and sketched out my ideas.  I find the change of environment stimulating, and hey, sometimes there are some pretty girls to help muse the imagination.

[BOOK REVIEW] Playing Big: The Unsexy Truth About How to Succeed in Business

Kim Flynn was unknown to me until I heard an interview with her on the Natural Born Coaches #115 podcast.  I was interested in what she had to say so I bought her book in Kindle format and gave it a read.

Kim's usual target audience is female entrepreneurs but that shouldn't stop any man from picking up this book.  I found the book useful and informative. Key insights:

1. A great introduction to business myths and how not to fall victim to the 'hype'
2. A refreshingly simple method to help you stop fooling yourself and understand just where you are on the path to 'making it.'
3. A simple and straightforward way to incorporate systems thinking into your small business
4. Effective management of staff in one three part simple system
5. A step-by-step guide to understanding effective marketing in her SELLSUM system.

A great book and a bargain for anyone with the Kindle reading app (the app is available free for almost any device, even a PC or your phone)
