[VIDEO] The surplus Military home is finally mine. Acadia Park Moncton.
Well, after a fun bidding process and then a bunch of waiting the surplus Canadian military home is finally mine. Closing was supposed to happen on the first of June but delays with the subdivision plan caused it to finalize on the 3rd. I have keys now, check it out...

[VIDEO] Offer accepted on old military home
I got a call from the government lady saying they were accepting one of my offers. Now I just need to do the inspection and finalize things with the bank. I may need an appraisal. I'll keep you posted.

[AUDIO] Brainstorming about 'The Opportunity Lab' which I will build in the new house.
I'm getting excited about the bid process on the surplus military houses. We'll find out in one week if any of my offers were successful.
In anticipation, I've started planning something new and better than an office.
To me an office has been about 'doing work.' I want a creative place that I can interact with and so the new house will not have an office; I'll be building myself an opportunity lab.

Snow Day
Wow, another 54cm of snow fell yesterday and last night. The city is closed for the day to help get cleaned up. It allowed me to get some things done:
I'll post the Kerry Lutz interview when it hits YouTube. Also, I'm making a video outlining my strategy for the houses being put up for sale and I'll release it after the bid submission deadline (since I know I've got a lot of local readers.)
cheers
Dave
- Finished my new book, Franchise Warnings, and got it off to the editor
- Did another great interview with Kerry Lutz of the Financial Survival Network
- Finish taking care of the details on the military housing being liquidated in my neighbourhood.

Big home liquidation near me, let's see if I can get a good deal on a house.
Two blocks from where I live 79 homes are going up for sale in a sealed tender bidding process. The Canadian Armed Forces closed their base here in Moncton last year and these homes are in my neighbourhood and many have been vacant for years.
The government set the stage two weeks ago by offering the first 13 homes for sale via a Realtor. The asking prices ranged from $74,900 for a semi-detached to a high of $86,000 for a 4 bedroom, two storey brick facade house.
If you've read my book, Invest Local, (and you should, of course) you'll know that I'm not the biggest fan of real estate as an investment. I am considering buying one of these houses for several reasons:
Here's a link to a news article about them:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/moncton-s-acadia-park-surplus-military-houses-go-up-for-sale-1.2932171
Let's see what happens. I'll post some video of the homes early next week, also you'll be able to see more snow!! (this photo is clearly not recent!)

- They are in the neighbourhood where my kids school is and my ex lives.
- They are cheap.
- I know I want to live in this neighbourhood for at least another 10 years.
- They are cheap.
- The mortgage payment along with other expenses that are currently included in my rent may be lower than what I pay to rent so it may improve my monthly cash flow situation.
- The starter-home market in Moncton is slow so they are being offered CHEAP.
